Service Support Plans

Service Support Plans (SSP) are developed by the child care service in consultation with the Inclusion Support Facilitator, in response to an identified need. The SSP may be used to help identify how a particular child with additional needs or group of children will be supported in the service. A child care service may have more than one SSP to reflect the various care environments within the service.

Service Support Plans will identify:

  • the capacity of the child care service to include a child or children with additional needs
  • what supports may be needed by the CCS to ensure that successful inclusion is achieved
  • and consider the current capacity of the child care environment, including the physical layout of the environment
  • the staff to child ratio
  • the capacity and skills of the child care workers and the equipment and resources already available to support inclusion.

If additional support is required, the SSP will:

  • define the nature and the length of time that it will be provided, along with a range of additional supports that may be recommended including:
  • FSF, ISS, BSP,
  • specialised equipment,
  • professional development or
  • general library resources.

The SSP may recommend input by external health or education professionals.

The intent of the SSP is not to detail the needs of specific children; it is intended to provide a tool for discussion between the ISF and child care workers about a specific child care environment.

A review of this action plan is also critical to support the Child Care Service and the Inclusion Support facilitator to reflect on the learning outcomes of this process.
