The Role of the Additional Worker

  • The additional worker is employed to increase the staff to child ratio (above licensing requirements) when a child or children with ongoing high support needs are in care (note: Family Day Care and In Home Care services are not eligible for an additional carer in the home setting).
  • They act as an additional employee in the environment reducing the work load of the primary carers.
  • This allows the primary carers to focus on inclusive practices to ensure all children are being included.
  • The additional worker does not work one on one with children with additional needs.
